By September 2020, Sanford’s public schools will have completed a two phase improvement project designed to balance student population and provide equitable facilities and opportunities city-wide.

Phase One culminated with the opening of the new Sanford High School and Regional Technical Center in October, 2018. Located at 100 Alumni Drive in Sanford, it is a state-of-the-art, integrated high school and technical center with four distinct career pathways: Science & Technology; Human Services; Business & Marketing; and Arts & Communication. The school provides skilled employees to regional manufacturers by offering students training in innovative and high-demand career technical education programs. Programs added recently include Fire Science, Emergency Medical Technician, Law Enforcement, Auto Collision Repair, and Cosmetology.

This show-place campus is also home to an 850 seat Performing Arts Center and a fantastic new outdoor athletic stadium, complete with track and artificial turf.

Equally exciting are the changes taking place in Sanford’s elementary schools during Phase Two. Upon completion, Sanford students in grades Pre-K through 8 will enjoy consistent programming, transitioning schools only twice during their educational career in Sanford. There will be one “middle” school created for students in grades 5 – 8 in the former high school building located at 52 Sanford High School Boulevard in Sanford. All pre-kindergarten through grade 4 students will be housed in one of three elementary schools – Carl J. Lamb Elementary School on Shaw’s Ridge Road in Springvale or “North”, Margaret Chase Smith Elementary School on Twombley Road in Sanford or “South” and a new elementary facility in what will be the former junior high school building on Main Street in Sanford or “Central”.

When Phase Two is complete, every classroom in the district will have been renovated, achieving enhanced safety and security for all students. The District also expects to enjoy reduced operating and maintenance costs as well as space available for potential future growth.

Our schools are successful because our parents, teachers, staff and community set high expectations and do a remarkable job working together to support our students. Our staff members engage themselves in professional development opportunities to enhance their skills as teachers, educational technicians, and administrators. We are fortunate to live in a community which supports education and the exceptional work performed in our schools.

Sanford-Springvale is located in southern Maine in York County. It may be plotted on the map as the geographic center of New England. Sanford-Springvale is just 12 miles from I-95, 35 miles from the culturally diverse cities of Portland, Maine and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and only 90 miles north of Boston.

Sanford-Springvale offers a quality of life which is uniquely "small town," balanced by a strong industrial and retail base which guarantee both strong employment opportunities and extensive consumer choices typically found only in much larger cities. Sanford-Springvale offers an atypical blend of the old and the new-the rural and the metropolitan.
