The Barre Unified Union School District serves students in grades preschool through 12. The district operates Barre City Elementary & Middle School, Barre Town Middle & Elementary School, Spaulding High School, and Spaulding Educational Alternatives for approximately 2,200 students. In addition to the regular school program, Barre Unified Union School District offers a full range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, extended summer learning opportunities, and after-school enrichment programs.
The Barre Unified Union School District (BUUSD) is located in the heart of Central Vermont in Washington County. Barre City has approximately 9,000 residents and is the 4th largest city in Vermont (after Burlington, South Burlington, and Rutland). Barre Town is home to four surrounding villages, including East Barre, Graniteville, South Barre, and Websterville, with a population of approximately 8,000.
The Barre community has a history of engaging its children and families through active parent teacher organizations, volunteers, family nights, math events, literacy nights, athletic events, the community art show, numerous after school programs and in countless other ways. The BUUSD dedicates great resources to support student success in the ways of enrichment and alternative programs, athletics and clubs, student supports, social-emotional learning, health services and the Dental Van, food programs, therapists and curriculum intervention.
The BUUSD attracts and retains capable, steady, and professional educators, support staff, coaches, and administrators who tend to dedicate themselves to the district for long periods of time. A significant portion of the staff of the BUUSD are alumni and have an inherent passion for the schools and the work that we do. Spaulding High School, which the students of Barre City Elementary and Middle School and Barre Town Elementary and Middle School attend, is the oldest continuously named high school in the state of Vermont, and spouts Tide Pride! There is a culture of supporting our students at every level. We are passionate about helping our students be kind, safe and responsible citizens, which drives everything we do.
The greater Barre area has often been referred to as the "Granite Capital of the World" due to its world famous granite quarries and long history in the granite industry. For more information about our district and our schools, please visit our website: buusd.org |
