Job Description

The South Portland School Department is seeking a dynamic, warm, and hard working special educator and case manager to work with our 7th grade students at South Portland Middle School, a new school which will open its doors for the first time in the Fall of 2023. The successful candidate will be someone who is skilled at working with a range of disabilities in a resource room setting. Experience in all aspects of special education case management to ensure compliance with requirements under IDEA is required. Strong skill sets in the following areas are expected: standardized academic testing, interpreting all types of special education evaluations, writing standards based IEPs, developing positive behavior support plans, and strong direct scientifically – based instructional methods to maximize student success, as well as solid progress monitoring and data collection. Candidate should demonstrate strong communication and collaboration skills, problem solving, flexibility, and the ability to manage and supervise several education technicians are desirable skills. Experience with and desire to work with socioeconomically, linguistically, and racially diverse students required, enthusiasm to open a brand new school, and excitement to work with middle schoolers required!
