Job Description
The Breathe Classroom Support Teacher works with students in the mainstream and Special Education setting. The teacher works collaboratively with the program Social Worker to determine best programming for students.
Other aspects of the role include:

Support students with Emotional Disturbances and Other Health Impairments

Collaborate with the program’s Social Worker and School Principals

Provide academic support for mainstream classroom assignments

Manage IEPs and conduct IEP meetings

Coordinate ed techs' schedules to best support students in mainstream classes

Communicate student progress with parents/guardians
-
Create meaningful Positive Behavior Support plans
-
Develop pathways to support students’ progress toward meeting graduation standards
Knowledge of and a keen understanding of the social and emotional needs of students, knowing de-escalation strategies as well as long term planning necessary.
The position also works with transition of students from 8th to 9th grade and assists with post-secondary planning.

Location Description
King Middle School serves the most racially, ethnically, and economically diverse neighborhoods in the state of Maine. More than 120 of King's approximately 500 students speak 28 languages and come from 17 countries.
King Middle School is dedicated to the idea that we can create a school where all kids succeed at a high level. Our school wide model is Expeditionary Learning. Our students engage in eight to twelve week experiential learning expeditions. These expeditions are in-depth and interdisciplinary in nature and require students to engage in sophisticated research, use the community in authentic ways, and represent their knowledge with high quality products which are presented to legitimate audiences.
