Position Title: Transitions/ SEL Coach and Substance Abuse Counselor PK-12
Reports to: Director of Teaching and Learning

Position Summary:
This will be a full time position with two primary responsibilities. The first part is supporting and improving student transitions among all buildings in our district. That could include working with PreK teachers and families to support the successful transition into school, working with teachers from our two primary schools to ensure a smooth transition to Great Works in Grade 4, or working with teachers and administrators to design transition experiences in and out of Middle School and High School that are supportive and lead to student success and well being. The second part is providing both proactive and reactive support to students in the Middle and High Schools who are struggling with substance use and abuse.

Leadership
MTSS participation (MS/HS)
Support staff growth and development in the areas of SEL and Transitions
Executive Functioning skills and support for students and staff
PK -12 School Counseling coordination. This position bridges all 5 schools in our district and will help bring the entire counseling team together in support of students.
Develop and implement high quality interventions for students exhibiting substance use and abuse issues
Develop and implement high quality preventative experiences for students in the area of substance use (in collaboration with Health instructors)
Develop and implement high quality transition experiences for students
Help facilitate communication across schools as part of the transition planning process
Maintain Records and Data
Use data and the MTSS process to determine what students are struggling with transitions ( grade 6 and 9 primarily) and work with the MTSS team to develop support plans
Gather data and analyze data about how well students transition within our district and use that feedback for programmatic improvement
Gather data about substance use violations across the district.

Location Description
Maine School Administrative District #35 (MSAD #35) serves the two rural communities of Eliot and South Berwick, ME. Students from nearby Rollinsford NH also join us for grades 7-12. The district consists of five school buildings (Grades PK-3, 4-5, 6-8, and 9-12) with a student enrollment of approximately 2,143. Located on the southern Maine border, our towns are approximately 50 miles North of Boston and adjacent to Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The communities are able to maintain their rural character while having access to facilities and technology normally only available in larger urban areas.

Job Requirements
- Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Certified School Counselor, Master’s Degree preferred, CHRC
Experience: At least 5 years experience as a school counselor, experience working closely with school and district administrators, deep understanding of the systems that operate in schools and how to work within those systems to support students.
Skills: Interpersonal communication skills, strong written and verbal communication skills organization, ability to work well independently and collaboratively.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience preferred
- Master degree preferred
- Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
