Job Description

The Assistant Director of Student Services assists the Student Services Director in the supervision, coordination, and evaluation of the Department’s PreK-12 special education programs and student services in order to support the unique needs of children with disabilities within RSU 14.
This is a full-time, year-round benefits eligible position. The duties for this opening would be as follows (not an inclusive listing):

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with students, school personnel, parents, and citizens and to collaborate with the appropriate stakeholders to maintain a high quality of services
2. Knowledge of special education law and legal requirements at both the state and federal level
3. Minimum of 3 years teaching experience with K-12 students
4. 2-3 years of special education administration experience.
5. Knowledge of special education and regular education assessment practices

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide supervision and evaluation of professional and support staff in conjunction with the building administrator and the Student Services Director
2. Maintain current knowledge of all rules, regulations, and statutes governing special education and assure compliance for all programs and services
3. Assist with program development for students with disabilities
4 Serve as the District 504 Coordinator, support 504 case managers, assure compliance with 504 regulations, and attend 504 eligibility meetings
5. Coordinate the recruitment and hiring of Student Services personnel
6. Participate in district-level Task Groups working toward goals and initiatives outlined by the district’s Strategic Plan
7. Carry out all other duties as assigned by the Student Services Director and/or the Superintendent of Schools

    Job Requirements

    • Must hold Maine Department of Education Certification with 035 or 030 Endorsement, must have a minimum of three (3) years teaching experience with K-12 students and 2-3 years of special education administration experience.
      Must have an approved Maine Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) at time of hire.
    • Master degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
