RETC is seeking a dynamic Special Education teacher to join our unique team of educators in a special purpose day treatment school serving the Lewiston/Auburn/Poland region. We are a small school within the Auburn School Department consisting of a maximum of 36 students in intermediate, middle and secondary level classrooms.
Students have the opportunity for a fresh start with structured and individualized educational opportunities by highly trained, trauma-informed staff in a small student to staff ratio. Class sizes are generally (6) students with (1) teacher and (1) BHP. Our program provides onsite Clinical Social Work support services, support groups and individual work with students and families. RETC is a safe and supportive environment for students focusing on SEL skills and restorative practices to help students achieve social and emotional growth as well as academic success.
We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications and skills: Appropriate Special Education Maine Certification Experience working with children with behavioral/emotional disabilities preferred Provide quality instruction to meet needs of all students, focusing on literacy and numeracy through an integrated and thematic approach to curriculum and instruction Excellent interpersonal skills Outstanding positive classroom management skills Demonstrate the ability to support the social-emotional needs of students Contribute to a positive school culture Awareness of intermediate, middle and secondary level philosophy and best practices Physical ability to train and/or assist staff in physical management of students in crisis Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff and families Develop a positive classroom community Demonstrate a variety of technology literacy skills Facilitate IEP meetings, and write appropriate IEPs Proven ability to work as part of a team
