Substance Misuse Counselor
Edward Little High School
Qualifications: BS Degree or Higher. Certifications and experience in substance use/misuse issues; understanding of addictions; knowledge of public school environment/culture; literate in current trends in the field; experience working with adolescents; experience in running groups; experience with program development; excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively; understanding of confidentiality.
Supports school counselors, classroom teachers, administration and nurses by providing educational awareness information on substance misuse issues.
Works with health teacher on relevant classroom instruction.
Facilitates classroom based work/interventions.
Assists students in the area of substance misuse with intervention services that include, but are not limited to, assessing student needs, providing direct counseling services, working with families, and/or referring out to other agencies.
Provides links to outside resources for students, families and staff.
Communicates and collaborates with guidance and administration on a regular basis.
Gathers data from Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey (MIYHS) and other sources to develop appropriate 9-12 action plans.
